CLIENTS

 

While our experience or expertise varies across our volunteer pool and from clinic-to-clinic, we are generally able to offer information, referral services, legal advice and occasional representation (depending on availability and resources) for the types of matters listed below. To get help from CLADC, you must first register for one of our legal clinics or speak with a CLADC representative, who will verify your eligibility, which typically involves confirming your income level and clearing conflicts checks.

 

Legal Sevices

  • Explain basic legal concepts and your legal rights

  • Look up various laws and regulations

  • Review and explain legal documents you have signed or received, including contracts or court orders

  • Help you prepare for representing yourself (called pro se) in a proceeding

 

Consumer Law

  • Contracts and warranties

  • Debt collection

  • Wrongful repossession of vehicles

  • Wrongful termination of public utilities

 

Criminal Law (Limited Circumstances)

  • Expungements

 

Elder Law

  • Wills

  • Health care power of attorney

  • Financial power of attorney

 

Employment

  • Inability to obtain or maintain employment due to criminal records, credit records, and child support arrears

  • Recovering unpaid wages such as wages below minimum wage or unpaid overtime or tips

  • Employment discrimination/harassment

 

Housing issues

  • Housing subsidies/vouchers

  • Evictions

  • Poor housing conditions

  • Accommodations for disabilities

  • Utility disconnections

  • Denial of emergency assistance

 

Immigration (Limited Circumstances)

  • Asylum applications

  • Employment authorizations

  • Filings with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)

  • Social Security Income (SSI) / Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) application

While our volunteer attorneys may provide advice on all types of matters, we generally refer people with the following types of cases to outside attorneys or law offices:
